Alan Dean Smith

December 24, 1951 — June 16, 2019

Alan D. Smith (Smitty, as most people called him and others called him Al) was born December 24, 1951 to Donald and Nicolina Smith in South Bend, Indiana. Both preceded him in death. Alans brothers, Andrew and Bruce also preceded him in death with his youngest brother, David Alan Nick surviving.
Alan came to Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 8 to live with his dad when his parents divorced. Growing up in North Omaha, Alan attended and graduated from Omaha Technical High School where he was very active in sports. He was on the varsity football team, the gymnastic team and the swim team. He worked for the City of Omaha, as a lifeguard in his youth and on the street maintenance crew after graduation for a short period, before joining his dad at a roofing company from which he retired.
Alan lived a very simple but adventurous life enjoying fishing whenever he had the chance at Levi Carter Lake as well as swimming there. He completed training in TaeKwanDo, to the 2nd Degree Black Belt while competing in various sparring tournaments in Nebraska and Iowa. His favorite spot he called home away from home was the 13th Street Coffee House, where everyone there was his family.
Left to mourn for now but cherishing his memory are his three adult children; Talian (Houston) Alexander, Marche Robinson (with mother Lynda Robinson) and Teresa (Griffin) Rishling (with mother Sharon Griffin). He has 7 grandchildren, Elan, Houston IV, Ira, Ar-Mon Alexander, Maijah Mickles, Grace Rishling, Adelyn Arias and one great-grandson, Malakhi; as well as an unknown number of nieces and nephews of his brothers, Johnnie Newson, Esteban Arias, a host of friends at 13th Street Coffee House, and his friends everywhere he would go more than once. He is well loved and will be missed greatly.
