Barbara Belser Spiecker

May 22, 1938 — March 21, 2026

Heaven got one more seashell hunter, and someone to create more cross-stich art.

Barbara Ann Belser Spiecker, 87, of Omaha, NE, passed away peacefully on March 21, 2026, surrounded by family as they prayed over her and told each other stories.

She was born on May 22, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri, but grew up in Massachusetts. She was the oldest of four children. She attended Earlham College in Indiana where she met her husband, Bill. Barb and Bill were married on July 30, 1960 in Wellesley, Massachusetts. They raised two children, Jenn and Dave, starting in the Chicago suburbs, moving to Dayton, Ohio, then Madison Wisconsin, followed by Cedar Rapids, Iowa before settling in Omaha, Nebraska in 1979.

Barb worked for Sears for over 25 years, having been one of the main employees to open the new Sears store in Oakview mall. She was involved with a group of employees that became good friends, calling themselves Doebucks. Barb and Bill found West Hills Church shortly after moving to Omaha. They attended West Hills over the next 40 years and she was very involved in ministries like singing in the choir, playing bells in the bell choir, and knitting prayer shawls.

Barb and Bill travelled a lot over the years. They made it to all 50 states and 7 countries. They really enjoyed travelling overseas or by boat, but much preferred driving. Barb would plan out the routes, where to stay and sites to see, then write daily in their diary of their travels. For over 20 years, they would travel to Florida in the winter to spend time with great friends where Barb worked on her seashell hunting skills. She is now in Heaven with an endless collection with one of her best friends Sandy Wilson.

Barb is survived by her husband of 65 years, Bill Spiecker, their children Jenn Julich (Scott) and Dave Spiecker (Sheila), grandchildren Neil Julich and Nick Julich, and siblings Steve Belser (Pam) and Holly Ahrens (Ted). She was preceded in death by her brother Dick Belser, her mother Helen Belser, and her father Anthony Belser.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at West Hills Church, 3015 S 82nd Ave, Omaha, NE 68124 on April 7th, 2026 at 11am with a lunch to follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to West Hills Church, Omaha, NE or Earlham College, IN.
