Carol Settles

Carol Yvonne Settles, also known as Cookie, passed away on June 14, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska, at the young age of 61.  Born on December 10, 1963, in Omaha, she was the youngest child of Dorothy Mae Walker.  Carol grew up in a loving family, and was the youngest of nine siblings. 

 Carol began her education at Kellom Elementary, continued to Bryan Junior High, and graduated from Omaha North High School.  Driven by a calling to care for others, she went on to pursue nursing and and earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in 1988, then later in life obtained her Medication Aide certification.

Her gentle nature and compassionate heart touched the lives of many throughout her career in healthcare. She worked at various retirement centers like Immanuel, Skyline, Douglas County and Florence Home.  In those places she made many friends, and many families happy caring for their loved ones. 

Carol was a devoted and proud mother to her four children: Shana Settles, Shawnta (Devon) Penn, Shanice Settles, and Kevin Settles, Jr.  However, her greatest joy and proudest moment was her being a grandmother to her cherished grandson, Kyro Penn.  Carol's strength, kindness, and unwavering love were the foundation of her family.

Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Mae Walker and is survived by her four children and eight siblings, Janet Boggess, Rosemary Beauguard, Jesse Reed Jr aka Butch, Judith Hall, Michael Walker, Eddie (Audrey) Walker, Debra Walker, and Larry (Tamika) Walker.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her children, grandchild, siblings, and extended family and friends.
