Cathryn Rose Vaneske

October 3, 1952 — March 21, 2021

Cathryn Rose Koenig was born October 3, 1952 in Mitchell, SD, fourth child of Alver and Opal Cue Koenig. She grew up in Fairfax, SD where she attended school and graduated from Fairfax High School, Class of 1970.

After graduation she went to Corpus Christie, TX where she spent a short time. Hurricane Celia convinced her TX was not for her. She lived with her sister & brother-in-law Bobbi & Bill Aultz in Omaha, NE and worked for an insurance company. She met and married James Vaneske in 1972. They had two children, James and Michayla. Cathy & Jim later divorced.

Cathy was a single mother raising her children. She ran a day care from her home. Michayla suffered health issues that took her life September 4, 1984. This caused a sadness that never left Cathys heart.

With her son Jim grown, Cathy worked many years for the State of Nebraska as a Social Worker. After that she owned & operated a daycare with a friend. She cooked for inmates at the Plattsmouth jail and later worked at the Keno place in Plattsmouth. About this time, she met Mike Elmore. Those that knew Mike & Cathy knew they loved each other. They were married on February 7, 2021. They were avid Nebraska Husker and Kansas City Chief fans.

Cathy was a devoted mother to her son Jim & daughter-in-law Jackie. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her grandsons Jacob and Jackson Vaneske. She loved Mikes children & grandchildren and enjoyed sharing stories of their lives.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alver & Opal, her daughter Michayla, brother Jerry and brother-in-law Darrell Hornby.

Cathy is survived by her husband Mike, son Jim Vaneske, (Jackie); sisters, Lana Pistulka, (Louis); Bobbi Aultz, (Bill); Dena Hornby; step daughters, Dawn Johnson, Crystal Johnson, Brandi Kribbs, (Charlie); grandchildren, Jacob Vaneske, Jackson Vaneske, Dalton, Hunter, Cherish, Abby, Jacob, Addy, Chloe, Emily, Sadie, Godchildren; Bill Aultz and Therese Mead; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
