1980 Corey 2023

Corey Crilly

May 23, 1980 — October 25, 2023

Corey Joe Crilly was born on May 23, 1980 in Denison, Iowa to Connie Crilly and Ray Crilly.  He passed away October 25, 2023 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 43 years, five months, and two days due to complications from end stage renal (kidney) disease.

Corey was Baptized as an infant on July 6, 1980 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa.  His God parents were Duane Renz, Mary Crilly, and Joyce Vogt.  Corey grew up in Dow City, Iowa and graduated from Boyer Valley Community Schools in 1998. In school Corey was active in band, choir, show choir, speech, drama, and football.

One of his favorite jokes was to not tighten his marching band pants enough so that they would fall down during performances. He had many good friends in school. They would always talk about how great of a person he was and how he always made them laugh. Corey would always make time for anyone who needed it. Corey was always smiling.

Following high school, Corey attended Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, IA where he studied video games.  This was not yet a major at that time at IWCC, making Corey a true pioneer in this field. After college, Corey worked in customer service for companies such as Markel, Aureon, TD Ameritrade, and West Corp of Omaha. From playing games, watching movies, telling jokes, listening to music, sharing books he read, and sharing tik toks with friends, he was always enjoying life.

When you talked to Corey, he would make you feel like you mattered. Even when he was in a tremendous amount of pain, he wanted to know how other people were doing and wanted to chat about life. One thing Corey said, was he enjoyed talking to people about their life, he said he did this to “collect stories.”

He also enjoyed watching football with his Mom, cousin Carla Erlbacher, and his aunt Rose.  Also enjoyed debating with his brothers or anyone who would listen.

Corey is preceded in death by step father Paul Thomson Jr., step brother Cory Reed, maternal grandparents Louis and Helen Jepsen, and paternal grandparents Wayne and Lucille Crilly.

Corey is survived by his mother; Connie and step father Bill Howdle Council Bluffs, Iowa, his father; Raymond and step mother Deb Crilly of Dow City, Iowa, brothers; Craig (Amy) Crilly of Grimes and Karis and Cara Crilly of Council Bluffs, Iowa, nephews; Jonah Crilly and fiancé Kaylee Weiland of Waukee Iowa, Nolan Crilly of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Jack Crilly of Grimes, Iowa, nieces; Jazmime Crilly and husband Chris Smith of Ankeny, Iowa, and Claire Crilly of Lincoln, Nebraska, as well as his closest companion, his cat Wade.
