Born on Saturday, March 13, 1965, in Denver, Colorado, Dana Lewis was the beloved daughter of Mary A. Burrell Lewis and Louie Lewis. She was the youngest of five siblings, including brothers and sisters from her mother’s side and two additional siblings from her father’s side.
Shortly after her birth, Dana moved with her parents and two of her siblings to Omaha, Nebraska, where she spent her formative and educational years. During the summer months, she cherished time in Denver with her sister, niece, and nephews, as well as in Iowa with her grandparents and cousins.
Dana was a free spirit who dreamed of living near the ocean. Soon after graduating from high school, and despite her family’s concerns, she boldly followed her heart and moved to Tampa, Florida. There, she embraced life fully, creating many joyful memories. Her niece fondly recalls their visits to Tampa, sharing a bond so close that their six-year age difference made them feel more like sisters than aunt and niece.
For many years, Dana worked for the federal government, enjoying life and her independence. She later shared the exciting news that she was expecting what would become the love of her life—her son, Harlon. After his birth, she eventually returned to Colorado to be closer to family.
In 2018, Dana moved to Des Moines, Iowa, to care for her father following the passing of her mother. After her father’s passing, she returned to Omaha, Nebraska, where she lived until her sudden passing.
Dana was preceded in death by her parents, Mary A. Burrell Lewis and Louie L. Lewis; her siblings Kendall Spivey and Debbie Johnson; and many beloved ancestors.
She leaves behind her loving son, Harlon Byrd; her sisters, Chrystal (Jimmie) Burrell Luster and Roxanne Burrell Williams; nieces; nephews; many cousins and extended family members who will forever cherish her memory.
Dana’s free spirit, loving heart, and adventurous soul will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Private cremation and family memorial will be held at a later date.
