Dean Alan Blackerby, 61, passed away July 27, 2025, at his residence in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born December 17, 1963, in Omaha to the late Wes & Clara Blackerby, also of Omaha. Dean is survived by his sister, Tammy Bronston and husband John, a nephew, Jason Bronston, Sr., niece Teresa Bronston all of Omaha, and a second niece Simone Blackerby of Waverly, Nebraska, 6 great-nephews, 6 great-nieces, and numerous extended family and friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents, George Wesley (Wes) & Clara Viola Blackerby, a niece Jennifer Davis, a nephew, Mark Blackerby, and his great-nephew, Diontay Bronston, also all of Omaha. He enjoyed a lifetime of fishing and mushroom hunting and always telling his most embellished fishing stories. Dean unexpectedly passed away after doing what he loved best for most of his life and that was sinking a bobber on the riverbank and telling tall tales about his fishing adventures and his close calls to the big one that never grabbed the hook just right! His legendary stories of the one that got away will be sorely missed, as will his uncanny ability to find the best fishing spots (even if they were only in his imagination) or he had to steal from his sister, Tammy. Dean spent more time untangling his line than actually catching a fish, but he wouldn't have traded his fishing poles and tackle boxes for winning lottery ticket! His passion for fishing was matched only by his love for hunting mushrooms, and we're sure he's already found the best spot on heaven's banks to drag his mother Clara to, so he can continue to add to his fishing stories in the place that never misses a bite of bait!
Services to remember Dean will be held at 2pm on August 16, 2025, lat Church of God-Parkway, 1202 East Browne Street in Omaha. A small fellowship and balloon release will be held for close family and friends immediately following the services. All are invited to attend.
