Edith Woodruff was born on October 26, 1937, in El Reno, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of her mother's 3 Daughters. They moved to Nebraska when she was a little girl. She talked about when she was in school in Oklahoma. She said she was so small that they had to lift her up to write on the chalk board. She could remember her teacher and the other children that she went to school with. One of the boys in her class used to walk with her to school every day. The lady down the road made her dresses from the feed bags. They were made from good material back then. The neighbor liked Edith, and she didn't have a girl of her own, so she would make beautiful dresses for her. She could remember things like yesterday as if it was just happening. I loved the talks.
Edith and Luther met, and their love story begins. They spent the next few decades growing old together. They had eight children in those times. They both worked at Western Electric. Edith went on to make a career out of. She was a wireman. Edith made the cables you see outside for your phone lines. She worked there until she retired. Before that she was a material inspector. She checked to make sure the quality was good before the material went out.
Edith belonged to 2 organizations: South Terrace Temple in which she held many positions and The Eastern Star. She did a lot of traveling with them.
Edith enjoyed traveling. She said being in the organizations allowed her to go see places she would not have. I think her greatest travel was going to Washington DC, to watch Obama being inaugurated after becoming President. This is something she didn't think she would ever see. A Black President. A trip of a lifetime. Edith had many adventures.
Edith enjoyed cooking and baking for the family. Her hobbies include crocheting and knitting. Put on a good program and she could crochet a blanket in no time or turn on her favorite soap opera (Young and The Restless) She also enjoyed her music along with an occasional glass of Hennessy. She would turn on her music while she cleaned. Her favorites were Luther Vandross and Smokey Robinson.
Edith was a bar tender at the Elks. Another activity she enjoyed.
Edith was not only a mom but a grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother. A big family to go along with her big heart. She loved her family, and she supported them in any path they chose to take.
Edith believed in God the Father, The Son and The Holy Spirit. She would always say, God brought me this far and He is not going to let me go now. She also said, you don't have to go to church to believe in God. Wherever you get on your knees and pray is God's house. Edith was a true believer in God and His many wonders.
Edith leaves behind: Tracy Williams-Daughter, Brenda Kyles-Daughter, Sherry Beaugard-Daughter, Luther Woodruff JR-Son, Larry Woodruff-Son, Lonnie Woodruff-Son, Estel Woodruff-Son, Christopher Woodruff-Grandson.
