(Betty) Elizabeth Jane McCormick of Omaha, Nebraska, age 92, went to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 27, 2026.
She was born March 14, 1934 in Missouri to William and Pearl Etter, as the fifth of seven siblings. She married William Duane McCormick in 1953 and together they served their Lord Jesus Christ for 40 years. As wife of a Southern Baptist Minister, she played piano for church, taught Bible classes and assisted in many ways. They served churches in Winfield and Strasburg Missouri, Wichita, Kansas and then finally as NAMB missionaries at the Omaha Baptist Center from 1968-1992.
Betty graduated from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 1981. She filled many roles in her long career: Pastor's wife, church pianist, Head Start Preschool teacher; Westside Church Preschool teacher; and Bible teacher. She taught crafts, sewing, ceramics, cooking and more.
Betty was known as a world traveler and member of the Omaha Friendship Force (a travel club). She went on foreign mission trips to Australia and Ecuador and toured adventurously on five continents.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Pearl Etter; four older siblings; and her husband, William Duane McCormick. Remaining family who celebrate her life are sons William Duane McCormick II (Jill); and Ralph McCormick (Betty); and two daughters, Gwenn Abington; and Kathryn Houston (Richard). Eight grandchildren: Brian Jimenez (Amber); Aaron McCormick (Nicole); Sarah (nee Abington) Wimer (Steven); U.S. Air Force Chaplin Joshua McCormick (Rebekah); Melissa McCormick; Mason McCormick (Christina); Cynthia (Houston) Fox; and Amy (nee Houston) Besser (John); as well as four great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service in her honor will be held
October 17, 2026 10:30 A.M.
