Ernest Arthur Crossley Sr.

Ernest Arthur Crossley Sr. was born in Omaha, Nebraska on August 3, 1933 to Payton and Haydee Crossley. He was the youngest son of eight children. On June 10, 2026 he departed this life and went home to be with the Lord.

Ernest attended Technical High School in Omaha. Later, he was employed by Omaha Public Schools over 49 years where he faithfully served the district and became known and respected by many. He was a devout member of Mt. Calvary Community Church.

On February 14, 1990, Ernest was united in holy matrimony to Gwendolyn Crossley and they shared 33 years of marriage. This union formed a blended family of Ernest’s sons Ernest Crossley Jr., Payton Crossley, David Haynie, and Michael Alexander. His daughters Alexis Crossley, Patricia Hargove, and Letangelon Carey. Ernest was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

He was a loyal Nebraska Football fan and would get quite annoyed if his football game was interrupted. He enjoyed spirited conversations and friendly debates. Ernest was known for his wisdom, strong convictions, quick wit, and sense of humor.

He was preceded in spirit by his beloved wife Gwendolyn Crossley; his parents Payton and Haydee Crossley; brothers Joe (Rosa), Albert (Evelyn), and Sonny (Bennie) Crossley; and sisters Helen (Smidgy) Price, Marguerite (Ollie) Davis, Catherine (Billy) Jones, and Shirley (L.G.) Harrison.

Ernest leaves to celebrate his life and cherish his memory sons Ernest Crossley Jr. (Jeanette), Payton Crossley (Rowena), David Haynie, and Michael Alexander; daughters Alexis Crossley and Patricia Hargrove (Roy Sr.); a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

The lessons he shared, the love he gave, and the example he set will continue to live on in the lives of all who knew him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy remains with the family he loved, the values he instilled, and the memories that will be treasured for generations to come.
