Gary Lee Sherman, 77, of Omaha, Nebraska passed away on May 21, 2026 at Legato Living at Eastridge in Omaha. A celebration of life service will take place at Good Shepherd Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri on June 29, 1948, Gary grew up in Kansas City and attended Kansas City East High School. He worked as a welder most of his career in the Kansas City area. He was an avid Kansas City Chiefs and Royals fan. Other hobbies included collecting baseball cards, reading Louis L'Amour westerns, listening to music on his vinyl records, watching sports and John Wayne westerns, researching genealogy and teasing and joking with his friends and family. Gary also had a love of training and spending time with his dogs, which he treated as family members.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Edward and Lela Katherine (Hood) Sherman, his brothers: Ernie, Harry, and Dennis and his sisters Jackie Fuller and Lanita Porterfield. He is survived by his sister, Wilma Hutsell and his brother, Ricky, his children- Kathy Diemer, Pam Mullen, Teresa Mustan, Jeanne Mach, and Nicky Hall, his grandchildren- Nathan (and Sarah), Lauren, Kershwin, Kaleb, Brooke, Keirden, Parker, and Erica, and his great grandson Gabe as well as multiple nieces and nephews.
Gary will be remembered for his predictable dad jokes, wearing head to toe sports gear, and his good-natured teasing. You knew he was near when you heard him belting out his favorite oldies tunes or his raucous laughter at Saturday morning Looney Tunes. He loved to share his baked goods, especially his snickerdoodle cookies. In conversations, he never failed to mention his beloved dogs.
A private celebration of life ceremony is being held on Wednesday, May 27th, at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 3809 N 90th St, Omaha, Ne 68134, at 2:00 pm. Condolences may be shared through the Good Shepherd Funeral Home website: gsfuneral.com
