Gerald Nordstrom

Gerald Nordstrom, 86, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus on January 30, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by love.

Gerald was born on August 1, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, to Stanley and Mary Nordstrom. He graduated from Mumford High School in 1957 and later earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Detroit Mercy following his service in the United States Air Force.

Gerald proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961 as a fuel specialist stationed at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. His responsibilities included the receipt, storage, testing, and transfer of fuel for aircraft and ground vehicles, and operating heavy refueling equipment in support of daily flight operations. Gerald was honorably discharged with the rank of Airman First Class after four years of dedicated service.

Following his military service, Gerald began his career as a television and radio producer and later worked for Ford Motor Company.

On June 27, 1964, Gerald married the love of his life, Norma (Hoopingarner), in Hillsdale, Michigan. Together they shared a devoted marriage and raised two children, Shalon and Erik.

Gerald is survived by his beloved wife, Norma Nordstrom; daughter, Shalon (Nordstrom) Orton, son, Erik Nordstrom and his wife Blythe; grandchildren Rylie Orton, Gage Orton, Camryn Orton, Scarlett Nordstrom, Grace Nordstrom, and Sofie Nordstrom; great-grandchildren Lenora Orton and Everest Orton, and his sister, Carol Dymkowski.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley Nordstrom and Mary Nordstrom.

Gerald loved Jesus deeply and lived a life reflective of Christ's love and sacrifice. He was known for his sweet, quiet spirit and tender heart toward the Lord.

A service to celebrate Gerald's life will be held on Wednesday, February 4, at 11:30 a.m. at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 4712 South 82nd Street, Omaha, NE 68127. A private military honors ceremony will follow at Omaha National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made in Gerald's name to Proclaim! International, a community of missionaries called to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ.
