Howard Nelsen

Howard Quimby Nelsen passed away on November 28, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 78 years. He was born November 20, 1947 in Omaha.

He grew up on 40th and Corby near his best friend, Harold Shepherd. Harold and Howard loved to share meals and play Rummicube for hours together with Tomoko and Margie.

He worked for 35+ years as an Installer for Western Electric/ AT&T / Lucent Technologies. Family was his first priority throughout his career so he turned down promotions so he could be in Omaha and not work more hours than needed.

Howard chose Margie for his wallyball team on his 40th birthday. They were married on 8/6/1988. He was a dedicated husband and father. He built our house from the ground up and did all the additions and maintenance needed. He spent hours teaching Margie and Seth how to maintain it in the months before he died.

Family time was precious and we spent as much time with our kids as we could. This included at least one trip to Mahoney State Park each fall and a family trip somewhere every summer. We had many adventures in many different states and countries: white water rafting, bungee jump in New Zealand, zip line rides, hiking glaciers, and horseback riding.

In retirement, Howard enjoyed lunches with Harold - especially at 11worth Cafe (RIP) and Pizza Ranch, Pickleball games at the Community Center with Margie, bike riding for lunch, kayaking in creeks and sitting on the deck watching the hummingbirds fight over the food he provided them.

Howard is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rose Nelsen; brothers Paul Nelsen and Bob Nelsen; sisters Betty King, Rose Mary Vetter, Bonnie Frazier and Barb Dodenhof.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Margie Nelsen; children Seth (Jen) Nelsen and Kelly (Sam) Mapes; grandchildren Elijah and Talia Nelsen; best friend, Harold Shepherd and many nieces, nephews, and other family.

Interment at the Omaha National Cemetery. Donations to Salvation Army, Heart of Child Ministry or SVdP Church.
