Ida Mae Wells (Ms. Ida B) was born on December 5, 1927, in Kansas City, MO to Ezell and Lillian E. Boyd. She was the eldest of four children. She was educated in the Kansas City school system and graduated from High School at the tender age of 15. She attended Emporia State Teachers College until her father's health began to fail.

She was united in marriage to James W. Wells, Jr. on October 5, 1947, residing in Kansas City, MO. until they relocated to Chicago, IL. In 1955, they returned to Kansas City, MO. From this union four daughters were born. She was a loving, funny, and quick-witted woman. She will always be remembered for giving the best hugs.

Ida Mae worked for the Social Security Administration. Starting her career in Kansas City, MO and then transferring to the SSA Claims Office in Inglewood, CA. Retiring after more than 30 years of service.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brothers (Ezell, Jr and Richard Boyd) and her sister (Dyorice Milow). Also, preceding her in death were her husband (James William Wells Jr) and two daughters (Rene Marie Wells and Cheryl Ann Giles).

Ida Mae leaves two daughters to cherish her memories Michelle (Michael) Heard and Barbara Elaine Wells. She also leaves four grandchildren Anita (Daniel) Harang, Michael (Christy) Heard, MiKaela (Warren) Corlette, Lillian Jones, eleven great-grandchildren, special loved ones Lindsay R. Heard, Marc A. Jones, Carolyn Kirksey, Redalian Lee and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
