James Alexander

James Thomas Alexander passed away April 25, 2025 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 76 years. He was born June 7, 1948 in Omaha.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Dorothy Alexander; sister Judith Fulkerson; son Christian Alexander and many loved ones.

He is survived by his wife of over 40 years, Jane Alexander; children Jessica (Justin) Swanson and Jared (Rachel) Alexander; grandchildren Kamron Alexander, Jillian, James, and Jarett Swanson, Jonathan and Joseph Alexander; sister Susan Ball; and nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family.

Jim grew up in Omaha, Nebraska and graduated from North High School. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. After his time in the Navy, he joined the Omaha Police Department. Jim retired as a Sergeant after 32 years of service, serving in multiple positions and with several police organizations. He continued in law enforcement at the Omaha Airport Authority and Metro Community College, serving his community for a combined 50 years, before officially retiring in 2020.

Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his 6 grandchildren. He also enjoyed his cabin, gardening, reading, crossword puzzles, cooking and his beloved companions, his dogs. Jim was a lifelong learner and spent hours researching his latest interests. He was a collector of gadgets, office supplies and a perpetual supporter of any and all underdogs.

Jim spent his life serving and protecting others, a guardian of those he loved. He protected his family at all times and will continue to watch over them. Jim has requested that local law enforcement give special attention to all his family's homes, especially during the services. As a side note, the German Shepherds are highly trained and have not been fed in a week.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Monday, May 5th, 2025 at 5:30 PM at Messiah Lutheran Church in Ralston, Nebraska. A visitation with the family will take place from 4:30 to 5:30. A private inurnment will take place at the Omaha National Military Cemetery the following day. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church Youth Group, St Jude Children's Research Hospital or the Wounded Warriors Foundation.
