Joan Marlene Casari

December 1, 1930 — February 8, 2023

Joan M. Casari (Mockett), 92, was born on December 1, 1930 in Lincoln and died on February 8, 2023 at Hospice House, Josie Harper Residence, in Omaha. She was a loving mother, life-long teacher, an award-winning duplicate bridge player and a fan of long summer days in Minnesota, brandy Manhattans, Winston Churchill, good books, good friends, properly cooked brisket, "Jeopardy," Spite and Malice, and one particularly confounding card trick. She is survived by her three children, Constance Reddicliffe (Steven) of Glen Arbor, MI.; Edwin Casari of Omaha; William Casari of the Bronx, NY; three grandchildren, Rebecca Reddicliffe, Anna Biggar (William), and James Reddicliffe (Maeve); and three great-grandchildren, Graham Reddicliffe and Emma and William Biggar.

Joan graduated from Lincoln High School in 1948 where she served as senior class treasurer. A graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, she taught at Morton Junior High School in Omaha and later retired from Burke High School in 1992 after teaching social studies for 16 years. She received the Paul Beck Nebraska State Council for the Social Studies "Educator of the Year" award in 1978.

There will be celebrations honoring Joan in Omaha this spring and at Pelican Lake in Minnesota this summer.

Donations in Joan's memory may be made to Hospice House, Josie Harper Residence, at Hospicehouseomaha.org.
