Keith Benard Buffkins was born June 10, 1962 in Omaha, Nebraska to William Sr. and Mary V. (Sherman) Buffkins. He was the fourth of five siblings.
He attended Lothrop Elementary, Horace Mann Jr. High, and Graduated from Technical High School in 1980. Keith later went on to join the United States Navy in the early 80's where he served four years. After finishing serving in the United States Navy Keith Returned home and worked as a security guard for various banks and swimming pools (Hitchcock) keeping everyone safe and providing a smile to uplift every person, he had an encounter with. Keith also drove for Grey Hound, Chief and Arrow Bus companies providing excellent customer service to all the passengers aboard and his son being his co-pilot collecting the tips and keeping them entertained. Later, Keith went on obtaining his Associate's Degree in Renewable Energy, graduating from Iowa Western Community College in 2021.
Keith met the love of his life Romona Scott in 1967, growing up in the same neighborhood in north Omaha on 23rd Laird Streets. Keith and Romona had two beautiful children, Jimmy Scott-Buffkins (Son) and Stefphonie Scott-Buffkins (Daughter). Keith loved to travel and drive around the country meeting and networking with various people. He loved to sing and rap and even recorded his own CD and had a Stage name UNION BLACK!!! You would observe Keith walking in parades with his military uniform and signs, protesting for Justice and Peace in the north omaha community.
Keith attended Paradise Missionary Baptist church, God's Missionary Baptist church and often visited Greater St. Paul C.O.G.I.C Ministries. Keith gave his life to Christ while fighting with heart, kidney, and lung failure. He never gave into the diagnosis and always stated that he was ready to go home from the hospital, so he could go to "Golden Apple" restaurant and eat some remarkable food with his family. He always looked at the brighter side of every situation and was tough as nails using his soldier mentality stating his favorite saying: "Only the Strong Survive, The Weak and the Meek Parish"! Keith truly fought the GOOD FIGHT!
Keith gained his wings on June 25, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 64 years at Nebraska Medicine Hospital. He no longer has to fight and can now rest knowing that he gave it his all. He completed his course and the mission is now stamped into history.
Keith is preceded in death by his parents, William and Mary Buffkins; daughter Stefphonie Scott-Buffkins; and sister Lu-Ann Buffkins
He is survived by his (son), Jimmy Scott-Buffkins; (grandson) Ronell Scott-Buffkins; (love of his life) Romona Scott; (brother) William Buffkins, Jr; (sisters) Cherylann Buffkins and Hollis Buffkins; and nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
