Lafayette Alston

Lafayette (Jones) Alston was born April 21, 1946, in Winchester, Arkansas to the late Charlie and Earma Jones. She was the tenth child born of 12 children. At a young age, she accepted Christ Jesus as her personal savior at Greater St. Paul Church in Omaha, NE.

Lafayette later joined Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she was baptized by the late Rev. James E. Kelly. While there, she joined the church choir. After years of being a member at Greater New Hope, Lafayette moved her membership over to King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. AJ Wagstaff. She participated in the choir. She really loved the Lord.

Lafayette gave birth to four children; Cornelius, Charles, Rochelle, and Aleasha.

Lafayette loved working. She was a hard worker at whatever job she did. She worked for Peter Kiewit several years before working as a room attendant at the Hilton Hotel in Omaha, NE. After 5 years at the hotel, Lafayette worked in the childcare industry with Mother Goose and Mr. Arias' childcare. She later went into the healthcare industry, providing care for seniors at Life care center. She worked 10 years before she became a senior companion at CHI Immanuel for 17 years under the Eastern Nebraska office of Aging. Lafayette earned various awards including volunteer of the year.

Lafayette loved her dog, Blizzard. She enjoyed cooking, singing, dancing, listening to music, and garage sales. She also enjoyed spending time with her family.

Lafayette was preceded in death by her parents; Charlie and Earma Jones, siblings; Charles Jones, Veola Huggins, Eola Sauls, Tommy Jones, Ralph C Jones, Versie Rouse, Dora Jones, Frediolene Jones, granddaughter; Charlyse Carroll, Great grandson; Treveir Alston.

Lafayette leaves to cherish her memory: her four children, Cornelius Mee Mee Brown of Omaha, NE; Charles (Crystal) Carroll of Des Moines, IA; Rochelle (Tammie) Alston of Omaha, NE; Aleasha Alston of Omaha, NE and foster daughter Latricia Phillips of Omaha, NE, sisters; Bertha Lou Davis of Omaha, NE; Lou Bertha Whitley of Denver, CO, 23 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Special friends: Ieashia Boyd, Zachary Buls, Valerie Perkins, Carrie Holbert, and Ms. CK.

Service will be held on Friday (1/9/2026) at Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 1411 N 30th St, Omaha, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 am with Funeral Service at 11:00 am.
