Lawrence O. Watkins Sr.

July 4, 1948 — May 28, 2026

Lawrence Overton Watkins, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, was born in Kansas City, Kansas on July 4, 1948 to parents Charles and Gracie Watkins.

He spent most of his life in Omaha, Nebraska where he attended Technical High School and medaled in Pole Vaulting. Lawrence worked as a butcher in the packing industry.

Lawrence was known for his sense of style. No one ever saw him without looking well put together. He took pride in his appearance and taught his children to do the same. Lawrence loves pork chops and fried potatoes. He loved to help people and always had a great sense of humor. Always making people laugh.

He loved his family very much. He always encouraged them to stay positive, keep their heads held high, and always fix their eyes on God.

Lawrence was a truly spiritual man. First thing every morning, he would read scriptures with his wife, Patricia, and that always made his day.

Lawrence had license to prophesy in his church at one point. God always came first.

Lawrence's loving legacy lives on through his beautiful family: Patricia A. Watkins - wife of 45 years, Children: Ronnelle Davis (Aziah), Lawrence Watkins Jr. (Jenette), Lisa M. Hollis, Ciara T. Watkins, Isiah Watkins (Lauren), and stepdaughter Shante R. Chism, 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Gracie Watkins, Dorothy Hall (Aunt), Charlene Lucas (Sister), and Charles M. Watkins Jr. (Brother).

Those we love don't go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed, and very dear.

Some people shine too brightly to ever be forgotten. That's how Lawrence was. His light shined bright on everyone, and those he touched now carry the torch light forward, sharing goodness and kindness throughout their life, that will live on forevermore.

Lawrence's family described his life as zealous, fulfilling, courageous, strong-willed, servant-hearted, and faith-filled. This beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend truly lived a life following Christ. A cheerful giver, a loving family man, a hard worker, a spirit of hope and excitement followed him everywhere he went. Lawrence's love and memory will continue through those whose lives he touched, and his blessings will extend upon thousands of generations.
