Leola Mae Jenkins

August 25, 1953 — April 2, 2026

Lola Jenkins, a gifted quilt artist, devoted mother, and woman of unwavering faith, passed away surrounded by love. She leaves behind a legacy stitched together with strength, perseverance, and deep compassion.

Lola was known for her remarkable talent as a quilt artist. Through her hands, fabric became storytelling-each piece reflecting history, love, and resilience. Her work was more than art; it was a reflection of the life she lived and the values she carried.

In her early years, Lola made the courageous decision to join the United States Army, driven by her desire to provide a better life for her firstborn daughter, Tonya. Her service was a testament to her strength, sacrifice, and commitment to family. Later, upon the birth of her youngest daughter, Precious, she chose to step away from military service to focus fully on raising and nurturing her family.

Lola believed deeply in the power of education and determination. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Accounting and went on to achieve her Master of Business Administration (MBA), demonstrating to her daughters that perseverance and discipline can open any door. She instilled in them the importance of hard work, faith, and never giving up-lessons that will continue to guide them throughout their lives.

A woman of strong faith, Lola taught her daughters to serve the Lord and live with purpose and integrity. Her spiritual foundation was a cornerstone of her life, and she carried it into everything she did.

Lola was also a proud member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, where she embraced sisterhood, service, and scholarship. Her involvement reflected her commitment to uplifting others and giving back to her community.

Above all, Lola was a loving mother who poured her heart into her family. Her love was steady, her wisdom was guiding, and her presence was a source of comfort and strength.

Lola is preceded in death by her parents, Thornell Washington, Sr and Precious Washington; late husband Sherman Tillman Jenkins, Jr; and brother Dale Harding, Sr.

She is survived by her daughters, Tonya Arnold-Tornquist and Precious Caroll; sons Brian Tornquist and Carnell Caroll; grandchildren Amber Miller, Lance Carlisle, Olivia Caroll, and Justin Caroll; great-granddaughter Ava Miller; brothers Thornell Washington Jr, Michael Washington; along with a multitude of nieces, nephews, close friends such as Joseph Hampton and Doralu Streeter, loving neighbors Helen, Terry, and Brad, a vast quilting community and all who were touched by her kindness and grace.

Lola Jenkins' life was one of purpose, sacrifice, and love. Her legacy will continue to live on in the lives she shaped, the lessons she taught, and the beauty she created.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
