Linus Eldon Massoth, 84, passed away at Bergan Mercy Hospital, Omaha, Sunday August 27, 2023. He was born August 31, 1938 to Linus and Rose (Sheehan) Massoth in Omaha.
Linus attended Manley Public School and Weeping Water High School, graduating in 1955. He was a proud football player for the Weeping Water Indians under Coach Dub Salestrom. Linus enlisted in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. He returned from briefly before proudly re-enlisting in the United States Air Force to serve his country.
Linus will be fondly remembered as a father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He had a love of reading and thirst for knowledge that was ongoing throughout his life. He had many hobbies that included cooking, gardening, and carpentry. Linus was a storyteller and he never failed to amaze while adding his great sense of humor to his stories. He was an avid runner and in 1987, he competed in the Western States 100-Mile Endurance Challenge. He later took up power weight-lifting, and at the age of 76 he achieved his personal best, deadlifting 265lbs.
Linus is survived by his daughters Theresa (Craig) Hops - Council Bluffs, IA, Sarah (Rick) Kunkel - Plattsmouth, NE, and son Patrick (Mary Beth) Massoth - Los Angeles, CA.
Grandchildren Rose Massoth, Eloise Massoth, Weston Massoth, Shawn (Jennifer) Pollard, Sheree Johnson, Marcus (Asia) Sheets, Steven (Teri) Weisz, Michael (Kayla) Weisz, and Becca (Tom) Finn.
Great-grandchildren Sydney, Sammy Nora and Leo Weisz, Coby, Kaesin, Kameron and Cruz Weisz, Keviz, Taylor, Riece Pollard, Jace, James, Joslyn Johnson, Bradin, Maddox, and Sienna Sheets.
Sisters Rosalie Massoth, Dorothy Jean Colbert, Alice (Chuck) Mizerski, Marilyn Maharas, Steve Massoth, Robert Massoth, Dianne (Tom) Sorensen; and many nieces and nephews.
Linus is preceded in death by his parents and his former wife Grace (Wilcox) Weisz
