With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of Marjean Gillaspie who died peacefully on July 2, 2025 at the age of 87.
She leaves behind her husband of 67 years (Harold), four children, ten grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She lived a rich life, full of family, dear friends, books, travel, and numerous charitable activities. She was an avid learner, attending at least seven colleges and universities while earning a Master's Degree in Special Education at the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota and a law degree at Creighton University. She worked for years as a Guardian ad Litem, served on the board of the Alzheimer's Association of Nebraska, was active in the League of Women Voters and taught adult ESL classes in the Omaha community. In her quiet way she lived a life focused on those less fortunate, making her corner of the world a better place.
Marjean is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Violet Maynard of Canon City, Colorado, her sister Annette Bigalk of Denver, Colorado, her brother Frankie of Canon City, Colorado and her daughter, Devon Gillaspie. She is survived by her husband Harold, four children: Mark Gillaspie (Dianne), Michael Gillaspie (Amy), Lynne Morin (Steve) and Elizabeth Gillaspie, ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, four nephews, a niece and many friends who dearly loved her.
Services will be held on Sunday, August 10, 2025 at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 4712 S. 82nd Street, Omaha NE 68127. Visitation will begin at 3:30 PM followed by a Memorial Service at 5:00 PM. The inurnment will take place with family on Monday, August 11, 2025 at Omaha National Cemetery. The family gratefully requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Nebraska and the Nebraska League of Women Voters.
