Mark Lee Gengenbach

Jul 1, 1962 — Oct 3, 2026

Mark Lee Gengenbach of Elkhorn, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2026, surrounded by family. He was 64 years old.

Mark was born on July 1, 1962 to Dale and Arlene Gengenbach in Gothenburg, Nebraska. He was the oldest of three boys. He grew up in Bridgeport, where he attended school through his freshman year before moving to Eustis. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1980.

Mark attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney, earning a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Computer Science in 1984. While in college, he married his high school sweetheart, Geri Leininger, in '82. After he graduated, they moved to Omaha and spent their 44 years of marriage building a life and raising their four children together.

In 1996 Mark founded CSTG, an IT support company. This began a career as a business owner and IT professional that would span more than three decades. He took great pride in his work and in the relationships he built with clients and coworkers. To Mark, his business was never simply about a paycheck; he valued the people he worked with, the trust they placed in him, solving problems, and a commitment to quality work.

Many people who knew Mark described him as a rock, in the best sense of the word. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who showed his love through the steady, dependable ways he cared for those around him. He found practical ways to serve others, whether cooking dinner for his family or setting up chairs at church. He kept his routines and could be relied on to do what needed to be done. He had a quiet strength, a steadiness that made the people around him feel safe.

Mark could be described as quiet. He loved golf and would often wake up at dawn to enjoy the peace and quiet of being alone on the course. But once people got to know him, they found that he didn't often take himself or life too seriously. His dry sense of humor and playfulness came out at work, with friends, and especially when his grandchildren were around. Those who knew that side of him will remember it with great fondness.

Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer in 2021. Despite his diagnosis, he was able to manage the cancer and maintain a good quality of life for several years. When the cancer spread to his lungs, his health quickly declined. Through it all, Mark's unwavering trust in God carried him through both the joys and difficulties of life. He was an active member of Relevant Community Church, where his faith and his relationships within the church community were an important part of his life.

He was a steady presence in the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt. He leaves behind a family who loved him deeply and a life marked by faith, integrity, humor, and the quiet strength of reliably being there.

Mark is survived by his wife, Geri (Leininger); his children, Adelynn, Hanna (Ayda), Nathan, and Samuel; his six grandchildren, Cove, Moira, Deirdre, Zender, Naeva, and Lenora; his parents, Arlene (Gerkin) and Dale Gengenbach; and his brothers, Bret and Todd Gengenbach.

In lieu of flowers, Mark requested that donations be made to the Open Door Mission in his honor.
