Maybre Leroy Johns Jr

Maybre "JJ" Leroy Johns, Jr. passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 74.

He was born on April 19, 1952, in Omaha to Maybre Sr. and Alva Johns. JJ grew up in the community, attending local schools and graduating from Omaha Central High School in 1970.

Following graduation, JJ answered the call of duty and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served with distinction for decades across active duty, the Air Force Reserves, and the National Guard, ultimately retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant. Throughout his career, he deployed inside and outside the United States, including service in Vietnam and the Persian Gulf. An expert in heavy equipment operation and security forces support, he was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal. His time in uniform instilled in him a deep sense of discipline, patriotism, and camaraderie that he carried throughout his life.

Upon retiring from the military, JJ poured his energy into his true passion: motorcycle riding. Whether taking scenic rides through the Nebraska countryside, embarking on long-distance road trips to Sturgis, participating in poker runs, or honoring fallen heroes as a dedicated member of the Patriot Guard Riders, he loved the freedom of the open road and the roar of the engine beneath him. He was also a longtime member of the Ashland VFW, deeply cherishing the community and brotherhood he found there.

Beyond his hobbies, JJ was a dedicated family man, a loyal friend, and a master storyteller. He loved sharing vibrant tales of his military days and highway adventures. His sharp wit, generous spirit, and contagious laugh will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

JJ was preceded in death by his parents, Maybre Sr. and Alva Johns; his brother, Larry Johns; and his sister, Dorothy "Dot" Johns.

He is survived by children, Amy Robinson-Johns, Patrice Pittman, Curtis Pittman, Steven (Joanna) Johns, and Taniya (Jason) Huff; grandchildren, Tre'Brina (Londyn) Neal, Ambria (Ian) Hogue, Malek Pittman, Korey Hedrick-Pittman, Marcus Huff, Johnathan Huff and Jalynn Huff; and two great-granddaughters, Alana and Rikka. He also leaves behind his loving partner, Luanne Hartso, and his beloved cousin, Ceola Hawks.
