December 11, 1970 - September 21, 2025
Melissa Louise Duncan, age 54 years and 9 months, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2025, at The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center in Omaha, Nebraska, surrounded by family after a courageous six-year battle with lung cancer.
Melissa was born on December 11, 1970, to Donna (Swanson) Hernandez and the late Michael Settje. On September 12, 1990, she was united in marriage to William "Bill" Duncan. Together they shared many years of love and family until his passing in 2014.
She is survived by her children, Andrew Duncan Sr. (Ranae), William Duncan (Kylee), and MaryKate Duncan; grandchildren, AJ Duncan, Sophia Duncan, and Owen Duncan; honorary son, Dwight Lawson (Heather); and honorary granddaughter, Claire Lawson. She is also survived by her mother, Donna Hernandez, and stepfather, Johnny Hernandez; brothers, Dominic Settje and Michael Settje (Susan); honorary sister, Shara Rodiguez, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Duncan; father, Michael Settje; sister, Maegan Settje; and honorary granddaughter, Kailey Lawson.
Melissa will be remembered for her feisty spirit, stubbornness, and quick wit. She was known for her sarcasm and her ability to tell a story. She loved sunflowers and gnomes, and in recent years, Patrick Mahomes. She always said she was a "quarterback fan," not a fan of any particular team. Melissa was especially proud of her grandchildren, and she never missed an opportunity to brag about them. Above all, she found joy in time spent with her family.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family in support of end-of-life expenses.
