Michael James
Mayer
Jun 6, 1979 — Jul 30, 2026
Omaha, NE
Michael Mayer, 47, passed away on July 30, 2026, doing what he loved most-riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
Michael was a devoted husband, loving father, proud "Papa," and loyal friend. Above all else, he cherished his family, and nothing brought him greater joy than spending time with his beloved granddaughter, Mia, who held a special place in his heart.
He had a passion for dirt track racing, fast cars, motorcycles, bowling, hunting and fishing in his younger years, the Dallas Cowboys, Nebraska Cornhusker football, and cheering on his favorite dirt track racer, Kyle Berck. Michael graduated from Lewis Central High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa, where he wrestled and played football.
Throughout his life, Michael built a career centered on serving others. He worked for Genie Pest Control, Cox Communications, Bank of the West/BMO, and most recently as a customer service representative for United Concordia Dental (UCCI).
Michael never met a stranger. Whether the conversation was about dirt track racing, fast cars, motorcycles, wrestling, football, politics, or-most proudly-his family and granddaughter, he could strike up a conversation with anyone. He had a gift for making people laugh, or at the very least, smile. Known for his generous heart, Michael was always willing to lend a helping hand, offering his last dollar or the shirt off his back to someone in need.
Together, Michael and Connie opened their home and hearts to countless children over the years. Their door was always open, and there was always room for one more at their table. He was also a proud member of the Defiance Harley-Davidson HOG Chapter.
Michael is survived by his loving wife of 20½ years, Connie; his sons, Dominick (Caitlyn Zuber) and Elijah Gilkerson; his cherished granddaughter, Mia "Mimi" Rose of Omaha, Nebraska; his parents, Vickie Snodgrass (Randy) and Richard Mayer Sr. (Kathy); his brothers, Jason (Laura), Jonathan, and Richard Mayer Jr. (Jessica Fisher), all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; as well as many "bonus" children, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who loved him like family.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Willard and Helen Morrison; his Uncle Mark Morrison; his paternal grandparents, Russell and Peggy Mayer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; his parents-in-law, Carl and Janice Mumma of Omaha, Nebraska; and his brother-in-law, Craig Mumma.
There will be a visitation on Thursday (8/6/2026) from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Good Shepherd - L Street Chapel. A Memorial Service will be on Friday (8/7/2026) at 3:00 PM at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 4712 S 82nd Street, Omaha NE. There will be a reception following the service in the Good Shepherd Reception Hall.
We ask for his family and friends to come in your favorite Harley Davidson or racing shirt.
