Michael Mckeown

Mike McKeown - 76 years old, passed away peacefully January 7. 2023. Preceded in death by parents, Gene and Betty McKeown, and niece Kaitlin McKeown. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary, children Kerry (Steve) Hoiberg, Kelly (Ryan) Sonnichsen, Shelly (Subby) Anzalone and Scott Hopkins, brothers Kevin (Deb) and Kim (Anne), and 11 grandchildren.

Mike was born in Council Bluffs, grew up in the Midwest and graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. He graduated from Iowa State University with a Civil Engineering degree, as well as an Economics degree. His career took him to Texas but then brought him back home to work in the family engineering firm. Later, he found a fascination with computer programming that eventually landed him as the President of Orion Systems.

Mike's hobbies included hiking, golfing and bicycling. His favorite place to be was in Colorado hiking. He and Rosemary spent many summers enjoying all the hiking and sites in Summit County. In junior high, Mike started playing golf and while his younger years were spent playing more competitively, it was a sport he continued play his entire life. When he and Rosemary moved to Las Cruces where the sun shines 360 days a year, he joined the Bike and Chowder Bicycle Group. This brought about his next love of riding bikes. In the past 10 years, his brother Kevin joined him in Las Cruces and they spent many hours on their bikes together. Through these activities, Mike met people from all the US and Canada and these friendships meant much to him.

Celebration of Mike's life will be Monday January 16, 2023 from 3pm to 6pm at Field Club of Omaha, 3615 Woolworth Avenue Omaha, NE.
