Randall Norman Hansen

April 15, 1949 — February 25, 2023

Randall Norman Hansen, aka Randy, was born in Harlan, Iowa, on April 15, 1949 to parents, Norman and Hazel. His sister, Dixie, was born three years later. Although he wasn't thrilled about it, he decided to let her stay.

The family lived in Jacksonville, Iowa, and Randy attended Harlan High School, and graduated in 1967. He did a tour of duty in Viet Nam from 1969-1970. (which he called the worst Senior Field Trip ever). He met and fell in love with JoEllen Domino, and they were married in 1969.

They had one beautiful daughter, Jenifer, along with beloved cats and dogs. The family lived the majority of their time in the Omaha area. Randy and JoEllen were married for 28 years and divorced in 1997. He remained close to Jenifer, who was a huge support for him.
From the time he was little, Randy loved cars and trucks, and made a career as a truck driver. Eventually he became an owner-operator of his own tractor/trailer, and made weekly trips to New York.

After retirement, Randy purchased a home in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and lived the remainder of his life there.

Randy had a quick wit and a great sense of humor and loved to laugh with his friends and family. He had a love of music of all kinds and was an avid reader. There weren't many knick knacks found around his home, but it was filled with books and music, and pictures of his family.

He also had a great love for his pets, especially his dogs Tuffy and Cookie, who would accompany him in the truck on his trips to New York. They were his loving companions, and he was devastated when they died.

Randy loved listening to NPR and following politics and was very knowledgeable about world affairs. He was not always patient with those who didn't have the same ideology as he did. Randy had lifelong friends in Iowa, Nebraska, and all along his truck route from Council Bluffs to New York. He was a loyal friend with lots of great stories about his travels. Most of all, Randy loved his family. His daughter, Jenifer, grandsons TJ and Kage, and their wives, Chandi and Shelby, his great grandkids, Kelton and Paizley, and his favorite sister, Dixie.

Some of the last words he said at the end when looking at pictures were, "I have a beautiful family." May you be at Peace now, Randy. Life wasn't always easy for you, but you mattered so much to us.

God bless you, Randy. And, may God bless us all.
