Richard Dale Erickson, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska, at the age of 89.
Born on March 21, 1936, in Kansas City, Kansas, Richard was a man of deep values, quiet strength, and abiding love for his family and country. He was the son of Eugene Erickson and Zetta Elgin, who instilled in him the principles of integrity and service that would guide his life. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Marjorie Kemp.
Richard answered the call to serve his country, embarking on a 24-year career in the United States Navy. Throughout those years, he exemplified loyalty, discipline, and unwavering dedication-qualities he would later carry into his roles as a husband, father, and grandfather.
For nearly six decades, Richard was the devoted husband of Bonnie Erickson. Their 59-year marriage was a testament to true partnership-built on love, laughter, and a shared commitment to family. Together, they built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and memories that will last forever raising two children, Lori Erickson and Rick Erickson, who are proud to carry forward the values of love, kindness, and strength that he passed on to them.
Richard found great joy in the lives of his grandchildren, Travis Erickson and Braeden Erickson. One of his greatest pleasures was watching them play sports; he rarely missed a game, cheering proudly from the stands with a twinkle in his eye and a heart full of pride. His great-granddaughter, Korra, brought him immeasurable joy in his later years, lighting up his world with her smile and spirit.
A man of deep and steady faith, Richard was a long-time member of the Episcopal Church, where he found peace, purpose, and community.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Bonnie; his children, Lori and Rick; his grandchildren, Travis and Braeden; great-granddaughter Korra; and many nieces, nephews and other family who were blessed by his love and guidance.
Richard will be remembered for his unwavering devotion-to his faith, his family, and his country. He lived his life with quiet dignity, offering strength in times of need, joy in times of celebration, and love every single day. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the lives he touched and the legacy he leaves behind.
Richard's spirit will continue to inspire those who loved him, and his memory will remain in our hearts forever. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
