Richard Timothy Wright

Mar 23, 1951 — Jul 27, 2026

Richard Timothy Wright was born on March 23, 1951, to Martha Hall and Rev. R. T. Strong.

He attended Abraham Lincoln Attendance Center for elementary school and then Lincoln High School in Leland, Mississippi. He joined the Air Force and attended tech school in Texas, where he worked as an administrative assistant. Soon after, he was stationed on the island of Oahu, Hawaii.

He later moved to Omaha, Nebraska, where he met the love of his life, Minnie Joyce Williams. They were married in 1975. In 1979, they welcomed their firstborn, Andrea. In 1981, he graduated from Bellevue University, formally known as Bellevue College, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. In 1984, Joi was welcomed as a new addition to their family.

In June of 1987, he gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Omaha. Richard began employment with the United States Postal Service as a mail handler and would later retire from this position. In his free time, he enjoyed fixing cars, home improvement projects with his wife, reading, and studying the Bible. He liked to talk politics, religion, and current events. He enjoyed cooking and eating. Richard was a cheerful but quiet giver to those who were in need, along with donating to various charities. He was affectionately called “Peter” by his loved ones and close friends since childhood. It was important to him to be a present father and a grandfather to twins A’mya and Draya Lloyd.

Preceding him in death are his wife of 49 years, Minnie Joyce [Williams] Wright; his parents, Rev. R. T. Strong and Martha Hall; sister, Mary E. Alexander and her husband, Neal Alexander; brother, George Patrick Johnson; and nephew, Richard Patterson.

His memory and legacy will continue to live on for those who knew and adored him. Left to carry on his legacy are his daughters, Andrea and Joi Wright (Andre Lloyd); granddaughters, A’mya and Draya Lloyd; beloved sisters, Veronica Newsome, Florine Burtin Miller, and Caroline Jennings; brothers, Steve Newsome and Leon Foster; adorned nieces, Robin (Jonathan) Johnson and Kasandra Faye Patterson; sisters-in-law, Johnnie, Juliet Linda, Jackie and Tammy; brothers-in-law, Major, Lloyd, Bobby, James and Emje; as well as hosts of other nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
