Roger Ackerman

Roger Norman Ackerman, 85, of Omaha died in the early morning hours of Friday, April 28, 2023 after a long illness. He had been in hospice care at Newport House, the skilled nursing and long-term care facility on Immanuel Village campus, for about a month before his death. Roger was born April 27, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of George and Norma (Seger) Ackerman. He attended elementary schools in Omaha and Salem, South Dakota and graduated from Benson High School in Omaha in 1956. He attended the University of Omaha where he met his future wife Bernice Viola Brader. The couple married on September 30, 1962 in Wayne, Nebraska. Roger was a long-time owner of Western Cars, a used car dealership he started in the early 1960s and operated for more than 45 years. He retired from the car business in 2007. He was a member of the Nebraska Independent Car Dealers Association, Omaha Kiwanis Club, and Morningside Lutheran Church. He is survived by sons Scott John and Douglas Ackerman of Omaha, and daughter Darla Ackerman of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; three grandchildren Violet, Angel and Xavier Ackerman of Omaha; and two sisters, Joanell Ackerman of Keystone, South Dakota and Ruth Ann Dodson of Anchorage, Alaska. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and a brother Keith Ackerman.
