Roland Daniel Schlaht II, better known as "Rollie," passed away surrounded by care and comfort after spending his final years at the Eastern Nebraska Veterans Home in Bellevue, Nebraska. He was 75 years old.
Rollie was born on June 11, 1950, to Roland Schlaht Sr. and Emma Jane Schlaht. He grew up in Gregory, South Dakota and graduated from Gregory High School in 1968.
In 1971, Rollie followed his father's footsteps and proudly enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country until 1975. During his military service, he was stationed in both the Philippines and Alaska, an experience he often reflected on throughout his life.
Rollie married Jean Albaugh in Winner, South Dakota, and from their union came two daughters, Amanda Lee and Audrey Stanga. In 1978, Rollie and Jean purchased Rosebud Photo in Winner and grew the photography business, becoming a meaningful part of countless weddings, graduations, family portraits, and special occasions throughout the community. In 2001, Rollie relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, where he worked for Marriott until his retirement in 2019.
Rollie enjoyed telling stories, sharing photography facts, reminiscing about old memories, and connecting with people through conversation. Photography was more than a profession to him; he loved being part of people's lives by helping capture their happiest and most meaningful moments.
He is survived by his daughters, Amanda (Michael) Lee of Black Hawk, South Dakota, and Audrey (Travis) Stanga of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his grandchildren, Hunter, Lizah, and Jack; his nephews, Michael (Barbara) Kirwan and Steve Kirwan; and his nieces, Candace (Greg) Menning and Kristi (Yong) Lee.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Schlaht Sr. and Emma Jane Schlaht, and by his sister, Sandy Kirwan.
Rollie will be remembered for the stories he shared, the moments he captured, and the memories he helped preserve for so many families through the years. In his honor, take the time to capture your special moments, hold your loved ones close, and whenever you need a smile, remember to say: "Fuzzy Pickles!"
