Bountiful, caring, compassionate, extraordinary and faith-filled are words that describe Rosalind Annette Gordon. On February 2, 2025, Rosalind rejoined her beloved husband Robert Vernon Gordon, parents, Daisy and Wallace Hodges and son Keith, she transitioned to her eternal reward.
Rosaland Annette Gordon (Hodges) was born in Pensacola, Florida on February 14, 1936, the youngest of seven sibling and the last surviving sibling to Wallace and Daisy Louise Hodges. She inherited a rich legacy of faith, family, character and leadership. She was a woman of extraordinary strength and drive.
Mr. and Mrs. Hodges were strong and committed to their faith in God. They inculcated in their children the values of honesty, truth, compassion, perseverance, and the importance of hard work. Rosalind committed herself to obtaining an education and utilized her education as God’s excellent instrument to transform conditions in her community.
After finishing high school in 1953, a new world of thought developed a compelling drive to work as a private maid, photo developing shop and maternity hospital for two years to save money to go to nursing school. In 1955, she entered nursing school in Columbus Georgia on a three-year program and graduated in 1958. She stayed in Columbus for a year to work to pay off her tuition. In November of 1959, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where her sister Edna lived and she landed a job at St Joseph Hospital as a Registered Nurse. She also, met the love of her life Robert Vernon Gordon and they married in 1960. To this union, two children were born; Sharon Marie and Keith Vernon. Unfortunately, in 1966 Keith passed away due to an automobile accident. Rosalind also worked for the Methodist Hospital before landing her ideal job at Creighton University Clinic as a Registered Nurse. She worked as a Charged Nurse, trained residence/student nurses who were on medical rotation. She was known as the cool mom, Rose, Aunt Rose, Roz, Rosalind, grandmother and friend. She had a passion for gardening, cooking, baking, reading, sewing, making one-of-a-kind quilts, dancing and music. Family was everything to her and when her daughter, nieces or nephew would call her and say “let’s do lunch, go shopping or go for a ride” she was ok with that most of the time without asking where she was going. She was just happy to be going. She loved to be adventurous, like riding on the back of a motorcycle or riding in a sling. These adventures were done while she was in her golden ages of 70 and 80 years young. After faithfully working for Creighton for 28 ½ years and serving her community well, she retired. Rosalind’s life of faith, courage and commitment was a resonant sermon to the ages of the purpose and power available to all of us if we work together in forgiveness. Her example of reaching out to others in love and reconciliation taught us that love is indestructible and only increases from being shared. She will be greatly missed.
She was proceeded in death by her siblings Leontine, Edna, Mildred, Donna, Sidney and John. She leaves this legacy of love to her daughter, Sharon Powell (Raymond), two grandsons, seven great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
