Shelli Sims

September 4, 1964 — October 6, 2023

Shelli Louise Sims "Sherm", 59, of Omaha, passed away October 6th, 2023 after a hard-fought battle with pulmonary hypertension and COPD. She passed with her husband and daughter by her side.

Shelli was born on September 4th, 1964 to Gerald and Janet (McNear) Hawkins in Blair, Nebraska. She graduated from Tekamah-Herman High School in 1982, where she was a cheerleader, swimmer, basketball player, volleyball player, and track runner. After graduation, Shelli moved to Omaha where she attended Stewart's School of Hairstyling. She was a hairstylist until 1998, rocking every hair color and style she could. Ready for a different type of change, she took (and aced) an accounting test which landed her a job at Data-Axle (formerly InfoGroup) as a Collections Manager, where she enthusiastically stayed for over 20 years.

In 1988, she met her husband, Troy Sims. Bonding over their shared love of music and football, the two were quickly inseparable. They welcomed their daughter, Dallas, in 1995 and wed in 1997 at Shelli's parents house aka "The River" in Tekamah. Their marriage was full of jokes and laughter.

Shelli was the light of the room. She loved to laugh and smile, filling everyone around her with a sense of warmth and kindness. An avid football fan, she could be found on Saturdays cheering on the Huskers and the Steelers on Sundays. Her heart, however, was her daughter. She was fiercely proud of Dallas and shared that pride with everyone.

Shelli was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald and Janet Hawkins, and her brother, Gerald "Scott" Hawkins. She is survived by her husband, Troy Sims; daughter, Dallas Sims; sisters Perky Weatherly (Denny) and Linda Dorn (Monty). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and extended family members.

Shelli was a loving, supportive, and spunky mother and wife. She will be missed dearly. The family asks that if you are able to attend the service, that you wear a pop of purple. Shelli's favorite color.
