Steven F. Brown, 76, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 16, 2026.
Steve was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on May 12, 1950, to Douglas and Jean Brown. He spent his career in the meat-packing industry as a butcher and plant manager at several Omaha packing houses before retiring from O'Neil Packing. Known for his deep knowledge, strong work ethic, and willingness to teach others, Steve formed many lifelong friendships through his work.
Steve married Jeanne, and they shared 47 years together. Their life centered on family, friends, work, good food, a drink, and time with the people they loved. Steve spent much of his life caring for and supporting those who mattered.
Steve was hardworking, dependable, trustworthy, and generous. He took care of his family, did right by the people he loved, and found joy in doing things for others. He was the kind of person people could count on.
Steve was happiest around people. He could make a friend on any barstool and held onto friendships from every chapter of his life. He enjoyed Canadian Club (CC) & Coke, the Huskers, the Toronto Maple Leafs, Team Canada men's hockey (until the last Olympics), his favorite neighborhood bars, a good western and quiet days on the patio in the sun listening to music, watching for birds and petting a dog.
Steve was a devoted father and grandfather, especially gentle with children. His grandchildren called him Papa, and he loved drawing with them, reading books, telling jokes, and watching television together.
Steve was incredibly funny, finding humor in ordinary moments and making people laugh without needing to be the center of attention.
Steve lived through many health struggles but never lost his spirit. Even in pain, he remained kind, patient, generous, and interested in the people around him.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Jean Brown; his brother, Mark Brown; his daughter, Lillian; his grandson, Knox Morse; his brother-in-law, Bruce Lauritsen; his sister-in-law, Carroll Thomas; and beloved members of his extended family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Jeanne; children, Michael Brown, Mick Brown, Jeanie Ingle (Mike Luscombe), Kristin Morse (Rob), and Marcus Brown (Melanie); his grandchildren, Nicholas Brown, Ashley Ingle, Kieran Luscombe, Ivy Morse, and Gabriel Brown; his great-grandchildren, Bryleigh, Scarlett, Noah, and Remi; brother, Doug Brown (Gai); his sister, Jennifer Fortunado (John); his brother-in-law, Boyd Lauritsen (Judy); his sisters-in-law, Christi Kjar (Tom), Susan Lauritsen, Carroll Thomas's husband, Keith Crowell; nieces and nephews; and the many friends who became family throughout his life.
To know Steve was to love him, and to have known him was to feel lucky. He was the kind of person you could never imagine having lived without-a man whose presence made life better simply because he was there.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Josie Harper Hospice House.
