Tom Vincent (Vinnie), 69, of Omaha, passed away peacefully at home from ALS.
Tom took pride in being from South Omaha, where he attended St. Adalberts grade school. He graduated from South High School in 1974.
Vinnie was a proud retiree of OPPD, where he worked for over 32 years, much of the time in the underground department. He was also the founder and sole employee of Vinnie's Handyman Solutions. He was always striving to help people, and could MacGyver almost anything to get it working again.
He was known for his love of the Colorado Buffaloes football team, and also enjoyed camping. Tom was a hockey enthusiast and played during high school and into his thirties. Other hobbies included hiking, reading, listening to classic rock, and watching The Weather Channel, SNL, and The Twilight Zone. He was known to watch A Christmas Story entirely too many times during the holiday season. He could eat a large pizza by himself (preferably from La Casa) and often ate food so spicy that no human had any business ingesting it. He had a sweet tooth and loved to indulge in junk food, especially on road trips.
Someone recently described Tom as being "a giver no matter the situation, extending kindness without the expectation of getting anything in return." And in one last act of selfless generosity, he donated his body to the University of Miami Brain Donor Program, with the hope of advancing ALS research.
Tom is survived by his wife Colleen McCoy, daughter Tricia Markowski, sons Chris Vincent and Tony (Candice) Vincent, stepson Derek Hitz, stepdaughters Helen and Rebekah Hitz, grandchildren Alexia Brister, Lilliana and Sophia Markowski, Tristan (Alexa) Ballard-Vincent, Bailey and Jemma Vincent, Jada Taylor, Ethan, Liam, Julian, Cameron, and Lincoln Vincent, great-granddaughter Charlotte Ballard-Vincent, brother James (Coleen) Vincent, nephews Buddy (Paloma) and John (Anna) Vincent, mother and father in-law Bob and Pat McCoy, and his beloved cats Tito and Queso.
He will be reunited with his parents, William and Roma (Peters) Vincent, and brothers William and Ken Vincent.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held at Brewsky's Food and Spirits, located at 15350 Weir St. on Saturday, November 29th from 1 to 4 PM.
The family would like to thank CHI Hospice and ALS in the Heartland for all of their support.
