Vera Mae (Burrell) Cook died at the age of 85. She passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
A private graveside service for immediate family will be held in memory of her on Monday, September 22, 2025 at Evergreen Memorial Park in Omaha, NE.
She was born in Goodman, MS on October 10, 1939, to Dave and Katherine Burrell. Vera was the oldest of their nine children. She attended the West Mississippi School and graduated from Durant High School. After graduation, she would move to Jackson, Mississippi where she graduated from Draughon's Business College in 1959. While in Jackson, she would marry Grady Cook on December 22, 1961, and they would have three children. In 1975, they moved to Omaha, where they would spend 50 years together.
She volunteered in the church nursery and sold Mary Kay for 30 years
Vera is preceded in death by her parents Dave and Katherine Burrell, of McAdams, MS; and her brother, John Burrell of West, MS.
Vera is survived by Grady Cook, her husband of 63 years; her three children: her son Richard Cook of Omaha, NE; her daughter Pam Wasserman, and her husband, Gary, of Omaha, NE; and her son, Mike Cook, and his wife, Juliana, of Coconut Creek, FL; and her two grandchildren, Zach Wasserman of Omaha, NE, and Opal Fox, of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her sisters, Bonnie Davis of Carmack, MS; Glynda Marriott and her husband, Earl, of Clifton, TN; Margie Watkins and her husband, David, of Caledonia, MS; and Mary Boutwell, and her husband, A.J., of Mathiston, MS; brothers, Dave Burrell, Jr. of Michigan City, IN; Walter Burrell of Forest, MS; and Bennie Burrell of McAdams, MS.
