Wesley Devereaux, 92, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025.
A proud son of Omaha and a gifted singer, Wesley Devereaux was a respected figure in the city's rich musical legacy. Active in Omaha's vibrant rhythm and blues scene beginning in the 1950s, he lent his soulful voice to several notable vocal groups, including The Five Echoes, The Sultans, later known as The Admirals and later performed as a singer and guitarist with the legendary Preston Love Band. Over the course of his career, he also shared the stage with iconic performers including Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, and several other notable stars, earning admiration for his professionalism, talent, and commanding presence.
Wesley was the son of pioneering blues and R&B artist Wynonie Harris, and he carried that musical lineage forward with humility, dedication, and deep love for the craft. In recognition of his contributions, he was honored as an inductee of the Omaha Black Music Hall of Fame, a testament to his lasting impact on the community and on generations of musicians who followed.
Beyond the stage, Wesley was a devoted family man whose greatest pride was his loved ones. He shared more than 50 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Pamela. He is survived by his daughter Jami and seven grandchildren; his two sons from a previous marriage, Wesley Devereaux Jr. and Robert Devereaux. He will be remembered for his warmth, quiet strength, and the joy he brought to those around him.
In accordance with Wesley's wishes, no services will be held.
His voice, legacy, and love for music will continue to resonate throughout Omaha and in the hearts of all who knew him.
