William "Les" Bennett

William L. "Les" Bennett, 90, passed away January 27, 2024 in Omaha, Nebraska. He was born September 9, 1933, to Clarence Ellis and Gladys Marie (Oamek) Bennett in Long Pine, Nebraska. 

Les was raised in Bassett, Nebraska and graduated from Rock County High School in 1951. He married his high school sweetheart, Doris Stewart, in 1952. After his discharge in 1957 from the U.S. Army, they relocated to Omaha. Doris passed away in 1970. Les married Josephine Avery Boyd in 1980, adding her children Bobbie Jo and Joel to the family.  Les and Jo lived in Omaha until 1988, then in Minnesota. They returned to Omaha in 1998. Jo passed away in 2018.

Les worked as a ranch hand, in law enforcement as a radio dispatcher and deputy sheriff, a security officer, an auto glass installer, and a lumberyard delivery man. He enjoyed hunting with his English pointer dogs, fishing, and was an accomplished woodworker in retirement.
 
Les was preceded in death by his parents; wife Doris Bennett; wife Josephine Bennett; brothers Ronald Bennett and Robert Bennett; son-in-law Frank Vetter; and step-daughter Bobbie Jo Linder.
 
He is survived by his children Kathleen (Frank †) Vetter, of Arizona; Karen (Bill) McMillen, of Pennsylvania; and Kimberly Bennett, of Omaha; step-son Joel Linder, of Kansas; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister Maxine Snyder, of Washington; nieces, nephews, other family and friends. 

 A burial service will be held at a later date.
